Michael Thomas Cruz Gumataotao (also known as Mike) was born on July 10, 1979, to †Frances Elaine Cruz (Chada/Pedan) and †Felix Cabrera Gumataotao (Chobic/Bindan). He is the youngest brother of Allan James and Ivan Paul Gumataotao.
He was raised in the village of Hagåtña (Anigua) alongside family and friends, with his upbringing shaped by their strong family values, active participation in village life and respect for tradition. During his youth he served as an altar server at the Dulce Nombre De Maria Cathedral Basilica. He and his family also honor Guam's beloved tradition of celebrating Santa Marian Kamalen on December 8th each year. These early experiences cultivated a deep sense of duty to his community and an appreciation for the importance of preserving Guam's traditions.
Mayor Gumataotao is a proud 1997 graduate of Guam Community College's Voc-Tech High School. His commitment to public service began in 2008 when he joined the Hagåtña Mayor's Office under former Mayor John A. Cruz. In this role, he contributed to various village beautification and environmental maintenance projects, helping to uphold the community's natural beauty and culture.
As a lifelong resident of Hagåtña, Mayor Gumataotao understands the importance of community, tradition, and progress. Guided by the values instilled in him through his upbringing, he enters his first term with a vision to strengthen the village's infrastructure, improve public services, and promote sustainable growth, white preserving the unique qualities of Guam's capital, Hagåtña. With dedication to his village, he is committed to ensuring that the capital remains a vibrant, thriving community for generations to come.
