Peter John Salas Benavente was born and raised in the village of Dededo. He is the son of former Dededo Vice Mayor Andrew Peter “Daigo” Benavente and Janice Salas Benavente. His grandparents are the late Juan Guerrero Benavente and the late Estella Anderson Benavente, and the late Pedro L.G. Salas and the late Remedio Nededog Salas. Peter’s siblings are Joileen Renee Benavente, Dana Jean Benavente, and Tara Jaylene and Kevin Cruz. He is married to Maribeth Balidio Benavente and are the proud parents of Zaine Peter Benaventeand Zian John Benavente.
Peter attended Maria Ulloa Elementary School and Harmon Loop Elementary (now J.M. Guerrero Elementary School), Dededo Middle School (now V.S.A. Benavente Middle School), and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1998, and further attended the University of Guam.
From 1999 to 2019, Peter worked as a Floor Merchandiser for Cost U Less, where he worked his way up to a Merchandise Manager that included additional duties as one of the key personnel of the company’s safety committee. He was the Inventory Management Officer at the Department of Public Works where his job included overseeing the security section from November 2019-February 2020.
Peter John participates and volunteers in different sports events such as coaching youth baseball. He had assisted in community events such as the Special Olympics, coastal cleanups, and shadowed his father in many of Vice Mayoral duties.
Peter John Benavente looks forward to working with the village and community groups to improve quality of life, enhance citizen engagement, and empower residents to take steps to improve their local communities. His view is to improve the quality of life in Dededo’s community through a more informed, active, and invoved citizenry and enanced governmental response to community needs.
